Prof Gilly Salmon and Dr Palitha Edirisingha work together at the Beyond Distance Research Alliance at the University of Leicester in the UK. Gilly is Professor and E-learning & learning technology and Palitha is Lecturer in e-learning. Both of them worked on the IMPALA project which was the basis of this book. Palitha’s research interests include the role of emerging learning technologies (mobile, social web services and tools): for facilitating informal learning within academic contexts; for creating social capital amongst students to support formal learning; and for addressing development issues.
